The Malad High School Ag program and the Oneida County Extension put on Elementary Ag Day for the third year in a row! Ag students developed lessons and activities to share with the elementary students. A special thank you to Oneida County Farm Bureau for sponsoring this event, providing all the funds for the event. The Oneida Soil and Water Conservation District also sponsored the event again this year.

The elementary students moved around 6 stations learning about different areas of agriculture, each of which included a hands-on activity. Station topics included: Soil, compost, and recycling. Wheat production and processes, students ground their own wheat and made pancakes. Tractor and implement safety and history. Livestock Production, where students learned how to show different species, as well as learn about opportunities in both the 4H and FFA. Diary production, students made their own butter, and got to milk our robotic cow “Tina”. Plant Science, studnts learned about germination and plant growth with a hands-on lab where they got to plan their own Zinnia and Marigolds.

We look forward to hosting this event again next year and are always looking for new ways to get involved in our community. If you would like to get involved or join in the event, please contact the MHS Ag Teacher.
