Employee of the Month – Christine Smith

Christine Crowther Smith was honored as the Oneida School District “Employee of the Month” at the monthly meeting of the Oneida School Board on April 21, 2026. Christine has been the music specialist at Malad Elementary School for ten years and has just announced her resignation so she can move on to another phase of life.
Principal Sarah McIntyre of Malad Elementary School read the following letter in support of Christine’s nomination:
“As an elementary educator, Christine consistently demonstrates an exceptional level of dedication, creativity, and compassion that has a lasting impact on students, colleagues, and the broader school community.
“Christine creates a classroom environment where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to learn. Through engaging lesson plans and innovative teaching strategies, she makes learning both meaningful and enjoyable. Whether introducing new concepts or reinforcing foundational skills, she ensures that each student is given the tools and encouragement needed to succeed and ALL students succeed in her classroom.
“Christine has made exceptional efforts in developing the elementary music program. Her efforts enrich student learning, and events such as the Veterans Day program, the school talent show, and the end-of-year program are enjoyed by the community at large. Through her efforts, she not only showcases students’ talents but also builds confidence, school pride, and a strong sense of community. Her dedication to the music program has had a meaningful and lasting impact on both students and families.
“She is truly a joy to work with, bringing a sense of warmth and positivity to every interaction. Her kindness and genuine care for others create an environment where colleagues feel supported and valued. She is always willing to take on extra tasks and step in wherever needed, helping the team accomplish projects efficiently and successfully. She consistently goes out of her way to lend a helping hand, listen with empathy, and uplift those around her. Her thoughtful approach and compassionate nature not only strengthen our team but also make the workplace a more welcoming and enjoyable place for everyone.

For this honor, Christine received a plaque, a copy of the “Starfish” story, and a gift coupon to a restaurant.
