Community Pantry

Dec 05, 2025 09:44AM ● By Meagan Hinz

The Community Pantry is on South Main Street

A new local food pantry is now open in Malad City, serving as a place where neighbors can help neighbors — all through the power of community support. Located at 219 S Main Street, the pantry will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the winter, weather permitting. The idea began with the local Facebook group Malad Buy Nothing, where community members give away items they no longer need and request items before spending or throwing things away. After seeing a few families in the group ask for food donations, I decided to check my own pantry — and then my mom’s — and realized just how much we could share. From there, the community pantry was born. With help from family donations, we were able to get a shed built so the pantry can stay open year-round. I’m incredibly grateful for the outpouring of community support — from food donations to volunteers who helped get the pantry up and running. This is truly a project built by and for our neighbors. If you’d like to donate, please stop by the pantry and drop off canned or dry goods (expiration date no older than November 2022, no dents, with labels intact). Boxed goods should be clean and undamaged. Fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and shelf-stable eggs are also welcome. Please help keep the pantry organized for others who visit. The pantry operates on a “see a need, fill a need” basis. Anyone is welcome to take what they need, when they need it. All items are taken at your own risk — many are still within their “Best By” dates, but some may be past it, so please use your discretion. This pantry is proof of what a small town can do when we come together. Thank you, Malad City, for helping make sure no one goes without.
