2024 Election results Oneida County

Across the country, the 2024 election played out within the margin of error pollsters had been predicting.  What was always seen as a close race lived up to that billing, as Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential race by capturing the “blue wall states” Harris would have needed in order to secure the win.  Predictions for the outcome changed several times in the run-up to the election, with then-nominee Joe Biden trailing Trump throughout most of the campaign season, and Harris briefly outpolling Trump in the immediate aftermath of Biden’s withdrawal.  Otherwise, the close race that ended up occurring matched the pre-voting prognostications that largely called it a tossup.

The Senate will return to Republican control after several seats were flipped by the GOP, and the House races have still not officially been called.

In Oneida County, Donald Trump received 2,119 votes for president, while Kamala Harris received 253.  42 votes were cast for Robert F Kennedy Junior, 19 votes were cast for the Constitution Party candidate Joel Skousen, 9 votes for Libertarian Chase Oliver, 6 votes each for Independents Jill Stein and Randall Terry, 2 votes for Independent Claudia De la Cruz, and 1 vote for Independent Shiva Ayyadurai.

Mike Simpson received 1,898 votes in his successful bid for the U.S. Representative District 2 seat.  Democrat Davd Roth earned 216 votes, Libertarian Todd Corsetti earned 148 votes, and Idaho Law (Carta Sierra) earned 84 votes.

Running unopposed, Kelly Anthon earned 2,103 votes for State Senate District 27.

In the State Representative D27 Seat A race, Republican Douglas Pickett earned 2,110 votes to Democrat Damian Rodriguez’s 231.

Clay Handy, unopposed, earned 2,063 votes.

Commissioners Bill Lewis (2,110) and Brian Jeppsen (2,181) were re-elected, running unopposed.

In the Sheriff’s race, Doug Williams won the contest with 2,081 votes to write-in Dave Murphy’s 121 votes.

The Statewide ballot initiative to amend the Constitution to include language about citizenship for voting purposes passed in the county with 1,648 votes to 767 against.

Proposition 1 failed with 2,060 no votes to 360 yes votes.

As in the national election, none of the state or county election results were particularly surprising, given the number of candidates running unopposed, and the generally unfavorable conditions for non-Republicans on tickets across southeast Idaho outside of some notable exceptions.

All six precincts in the county were fully reported, though the results are not official until the canvassing at the Board of County Commissioners takes place on Tuesday, the meeting being moved one day back in observance of Veterans Day on the regularly scheduled day.
